Lorenzo Vergari

BIOGRAPHY

Lorenzo Vergari is a Ph.D. candidate in the SALT group. His research investigates chemistry and engineering of graphite in molten fluoride salt reactors. Lorenzo is a recipient of the Berkeley Graduate Fellowship. Before joining UC Berkeley, he obtained a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, a M.S. in Energy and Nuclear Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, and a B.S. in Energy Engineering from Politecnico di Milano.

PROJECTS

Graphite and Tritium Studies in Molten Fluoride Salts
Molten Salt Reactor Test Bed with Neutron Irradiation
High Temperature Molten Salt Reactor Pump Development
Lorenzo’s research focuses on the chemical properties of graphite in molten salts.  Current projects involve using graphite as a vector for tritium removal, preventing salt infiltration in graphite components, and quantifying wear and friction in fluoride systems . Part of Lorenzo’s research is performed in collaboration with MIT, NCSU and ORNL (within the US DOE NEUP) and with Kairos Power.
